Auditions For Cinderella Now Open

Auditions are open to find the fairytale cast of Cinderella

Auditions For ~Cinderella Now Open~

The Empire has kicked off the search for the fairytale cast who bring the Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella to life in March 2024.

On The Empire mainstage from March 15-23 next year, tickets to all six performances of Cinderella are on sale now.

First premiering in New York in 2013, the Tony Award® winning Broadway musical takes a romantic comedy spin on the classic tale, featuring new characters, a hilarious libretto, surprising twists and an unforgettable score.

Applications for auditions for principal roles, ensemble members and backstage singers are now open and can be completed online at The Empire’s website.

The search for a talented cast is led by Director Tim Hill along with Musical Director Craig Renshaw and Choreographer Tess Hill.

Sydney-based Craig Renshaw first impressed The Empire’s audiences with his hilarious audience interactions and banter as musical director of 2018’s EssGee’s Pirates of Penzance, as well as his musical direction and conducting for the iconic music of ABBA in the 2020 musical Mamma Mia! and the 2022 Queen musical, We Will Rock You.

Brisbane choreographer Tess Hill is also no stranger to The Empire after her high energy choreography stole the show during the 2020 production of Mamma Mia! Tess’s other choreography credits include Into the Woods at Gold Coast Arts Centre, Rent at Brisbane Powerhouse and Cabaret at The Performers Studio.

Coming to Cinderella following his successful run of Billy Elliot The Musical at The Star Gold Coast, NIDA trained Director Tim Hill said he was excited to witness the talent that will walk into the audition room.

“We're not just searching for the perfect Cinderella, but also a diverse range of captivating characters to bring this enchanting production to life. And let's not forget the need for an ensemble that can truly shine as triple threats,” Mr Hill said.

Mr Hill shared his vision for this production; a magical fairy-tale journey, complete with beautiful songs and mesmerising dances set against a stunning design with a little theatrical magic.

I anticipate the audience will meet a Cinderella with a strong, feisty, and powerful personality, offering a classic story with a modern and playful twist.

Tim Hill, Director

Auditions will be held at The Church Theatre from November 25-29 with role call backs held as necessary over the audition period.

The Empire is also accepting expressions of interest from prospective orchestra members, and backstage crew.

Audition applications close 8am, Thursday November 23 and the cast will be announced Wednesday December 13.
